there’s pressure from the dealer, your friends, and YouTube to “protect
it.” PPF or ceramic — which one?
This is honestly the wrong question. The right question is: what’s
the right combination for how you actually drive? But since the
comparison gets asked, let’s settle it.

Honest Answer: Neither Alone Is “Better” — They Solve Different
Problems
PPF and ceramic protect against different things:
- PPF stops mechanical damage — chips, scratches, scrapes. It’s
armour. - Ceramic stops chemical and visual damage — water spots,
oxidation, contaminant bonding. It’s non-stick.
Asking “which is better for a new car” is like asking whether a
helmet or a raincoat is better for riding a motorcycle. Different
problems, different answers.
When PPF Alone Is the Right
Call
If you’re going to pick only one for a new car:
- You drive expressways out of Noida more than 4–5 times a
year - You take long road trips — Spiti, Leh, Goa drives, Mumbai
trips - You park on the street where rickshaw / two-wheeler proximity is
normal - You’re keeping the car 5+ years and resale matters
- The car is a luxury / exotic / matte specialty — paint is
irreplaceable in matched OEM finish - You hate the idea of even a single stone chip on a new
car
At minimum: front kit PPF (bumper, hood, fenders, headlights,
mirrors, A-pillars). Better: front kit + door cups + rocker panels.
Best: full body.
When Ceramic Alone Is the
Right Call
If you’re going to pick only one:
- You drive mostly inside the city, low-medium km/year
- Your car is parked under cover (apartment basement, home
garage) - Resale is not a major concern (planning to keep <2 years or
trade in for the next model) - Budget is firmly capped at ₹15,000–₹40,000 for
protection - You want easier washing as the primary benefit
- The car is a daily driver where small chips don’t bother

New Car Specifics — When to
Apply
For a brand-new car, the ideal time for PPF is within the first 30–60
days, before any contaminants embed in the clearcoat. For ceramic, the
same applies — within 60 days of taking delivery, on factory-fresh
paint, gives the best bond and longest performance.
If your dealer offered “free PPF” or “free ceramic” with the car,
ask:
- What brand and what micron thickness?
- Is it installed at the dealership or at an authorised
studio? - What’s the warranty period and is it registered against the
VIN?
In most cases, dealer-bundled “PPF” is low-grade vinyl wrap and
dealer-bundled “ceramic” is a 6-month spray-on. They’re worth what you
didn’t pay for them.
